Blink Turn Around

It’ll be over in the wink of an eye. She said. Or was it “the blink of an eye”? I can’t remember, which is the oddest thing because it was only yesterday that she said it.

Or was it longer than that?  Last week perhaps? A year ago? Twenty or so years ago?

Longer than it takes one to wink one’s eye, or to blink both eyes.

Yet, here we are, you all grown up. Nana’s long since gone. I’m still young of course, but people keep talking about “aging” as if it’s something everyone just has to do! Like it’s the latest fad diet or some such nonsense. Well, not for me. I’m not getting in on that trend.

But look at you! In the wink of an eye! I mean blink of an eye. I mean, I mean, how did this happen? I wasn’t blind to it.

I knew that children grow up. After all I’d had some first hand experience in the field. I’d been a kid myself, remember it well. Not sure I ever entirely progressed out of the phase. So you see? I had a firm handle on the matter. However, in my own experience, my years of maturing took much longer than did yours. They were spent waiting impatiently for life to arrange itself in such a way that I could do what I wanted, whenever I wanted. It took forever and a day. Not the wink or the blink of my own eyes. More like a slow, turning of the hands on the clock.

But look at you!

You were our baby boy.

Then wink, close your eyes, blink, turn around, wink, just like that, in the blink of an eye, there you are.

Bearded young man.

Mind of genius.

Creative crafter.

Hands of talent.

Gentle heart.

Wounded soul

Come home.

Life.

It’ll be over

in the blink of an eye.
